Apps:

Insight Timer — all kinds of courses, teachers and guided meditations ranging from 6 minutes to half an hour. Free

Happier Meditation — meditations including brief courses on mindfulness and meditation.  Many wonderful teachers. Cost: $99 per year

10% with Dan Harris — guided meditations, podcast and live discussions. Payment is based on a sliding/pay what-you-can scale.

Smiling Mind — simple to use, with short, guided meditations easy for kids, families and parents. Free

Inside the Curious Mind: Journey with Dr. Jud on an exploration of how to rewire your mind with curiosity, compassion, and cutting-edge science — found on Substack. Excellent, clear writing by Dr. Jud Brewer a neuroscientist, psychiatrist, and Brown University professor. You can sign up for his newsletter to receive by e-mail or read his writing on Substack.

Books:

Radical Acceptance, Tara Brach – a beautiful book about the shared experience of suffering and the way through to the other side through acceptance

Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of LIfe, Richard Rohr – Rohr is a Franciscan priest whose words of wisdom span all religions.  He comes from the Christian tradition, but do not let this deter you.  His honesty and knowledge speaks deeply to the experience of being human.

The Book of Awakening, Mark Nepo – daily reflections with brief, thoughtful prompts for meditation

The Parent’s Tao Te Ching; Ancient Advice for Modern Parents, William Martin – brief words of wisdom and encouragement
